Washcloth #3 ~ Gritty washcloth

I called this washcloth the gritty washcloth for two reasons. It uses the grit stitch but the texture also makes it great for nitty gritty cleaning. This pattern is also available as a PDF for a small charge ($1.50) from my Ravelry store.

DESCRIPTION: This is an easy pattern that uses basic stitches to make a complex looking texture. It uses a bit more yarn , but it is well worth it. Easy to resize, this stitch would also make a great baby blanket.

GAUGE & SIZING: Gauge isn’t very important in this project. Play around with hook sizes until you find one that makes a fabric you like. This pattern is written to produce a washcloth roughly 10 inches by 10 inches. If you would like to change the size, simply chain the width you’d like, making sure it’s a multiple of 2, then add 1, then 2 more chains.

ch = chain
sk = skip
st = stitch
SC = single crochet
DC = double crochet
** = Repeat the instructions inside the asterisks the indicated number of times.
() Stitches within the parentheses are all worked into the same stitch
{ } The number inside brackets indicates the number of stitches in the row

About 120 yards of cotton or cotton blend yarn
(Such as Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran or Dishie from WeCrochet)
A 4.0 mm (G/6) hook
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Stitch markers if desired.

ch 39

1. DC in the third stitch. *sk 1, (SC, DC) in next.* Repeat until last 2 ch. Sk 1, SC in last. {1 SC, 16 clusters, 1 DC}

2. Ch 1, turn, and work 1 DC into the same stitch. *sk 1 DC (1 SC, 1 DC) in next st*. Repeat until two stitches remain. Skip 1 DC , work 1 SC in last stitch. {1 DC, 16 clusters, 1 SC}

Repeat row 2 until the washcloth reaches 10″ or your desired size,

Weave in your ends:

Thread the needle with one yarn tail. Weave the needle back through several stitches, about an inch. Turn and go back through, beginning in the second stitch from needle. Repeat once more. Repeat with any other yarn tails. Snip the tails.
