Washcloth #23 Rope Stitch Washcloth

This washcloth has a beautiful, lacy texture. Double crochet stitches and chain stitches create little “V”s. Individually, the stitch is called a V stitch but put together it is referred to as the Rope Stitch. You can see my tutorial for the V stitch here.

This is a washcloth that would be great for light use. You can see the whole collection here to find the perfect washcloth for whatever use you can imagine!

There are two ways to access this pattern. One is for free right here on the blog (just scroll down). The other is by purchasing it. It is available on Ravelry or on Lovecrafts for a small fee. You can also purchase all the patterns at once! The collection is available here and will be updated as patterns are released. Purchasing these patterns is a great way to enable me to continue publishing free patterns here. The PDF is ad-free and is great for couch crocheting or popping into your project bag to take on a road trip or to keep in the car for those spare moments throughout the day.

DESCRIPTION:

The Rope stitch creates a lacy, open fabric. It’s composed of the simple V stitch which just uses chain and DC stitches. This stitch is great for adding interest to almost any project or creating a lightweight blanket, scarf, or other project.

GAUGE & SIZING:

Gauge & Size

Gauge (tension) isn’t very important in this project. For reference, my gauge is 6 V sts and 7 rows per 4″.

Play around with hook sizes until you find one that makes a fabric you like. This pattern is written to produce a washcloth that is roughly 8 inches by 8 inches.

ABBREVIATIONS & STITCHES USED:

ch = chain

sk = skip

st = stitch

sp = space

DC = double crochet

V st = (DC, ch 1, DC)

* * = Repeat what is in asterisks the indicated number of times

( ) = Work all in the same st or sp

Note: Beginning chain 4 counts as a DC + 1 ch sp.

MATERIALS:

About 40-60 yards of Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran or any #4 cotton or cotton blend.

A 4.0 mm (F) hook

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Stitch markers if desired.

PATTERN:

Ch 38

1. DC in the 5th chain from hook.

*Sk 2 ch, V stitch in next ch.*

Repeat across. Turn.

2. Ch 4. In the 1st chain space, work DC.

*V st in each ch sp across.* Turn.

Repeat 2 until piece reaches measurements or desired size.

Finishing

Weave in your ends:

Thread the needle with one yarn tail. Weave the needle back through several stitches, about an inch. Turn and go back through, beginning in the second stitch from needle. Repeat once more. Repeat with any other yarn tails. Snip the tails.
